Originally from Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Shih graduated from the Kaoushiung Medical University in 1987 with a Bachelor degree in Dentistry. In Taiwan, He practiced Orthodontics and General Dentistry. In 1993, he received his Doctorate degree from the prestigious Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois.
He was on the dean’s list during his academic study, he obtained his California License before graduation & also passed the Northeastern Regional Board exam with the highest score in clinical examination. This is considered as the highest compliment to him & to his beloved Northwestern University Dental School.
In dental Implants and sedation dentistry, he is one of few dentists who completed and received all Surgical, Restorative and Laboratory certification in Branemark Implant System. He has trained with world’s most prominent Oral Surgeon Dr. Kraut at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. to advance his Implant technique. He is now rapidly becoming known as San Diego and Carlsbad Area’s leading dentists for people who want to snooze through their dental and implant treatment.
After Practicing General & Implant Dentistry in Upland, California for few years. Dr. Shih and his wife Stephanie found a beautiful community in Scripps Ranch, San Diego and built their main office in 2000, an elite stat-of-art dental spa practice focusing on Relaxation Dentistry, a Restorative, Cosmetic & Dental Implants practice. Even with the success of his implant practice, he still loves Orthodontics and treating children, He then in 2005 build his Carlsbad satellite family practice with a kid-friendly setting to cater for the family with small children. He then combined Dr. Viazis’ bracket with other new technology and developed “Shismart System” in Orthodontics. He soon became known as “ Fast
Course Braces Doctor” in Carlsbad area. Most of treatments can be finished in a year or sooner.
He now lives in Santaluz area and serves his community as a Board Director. He is also a part-time clinical Instructor and mentor for UCSD Pre-Dental Society. For his spare time, he loves to play his Italian violin and golfing with his three boys.
